-Mitch Hiles
Mitch grew up on a small car lot in Southern Ontario, where he helped his father run the family business from the age of five years old. Mitch’s dad, Chris, raised him with a strong sense that his customers are also his neighbours and friends, and that it was an honour and a privilege to serve their needs. After falling in love with a 1968 Datsun 510 in Turquoise Blue and saving to purchase his first used car at the age of ten, Mitch knew he'd be a car guy for life.
Mitch’s family moved to the Edmonton area in 2000, and after high school he began his career in the industry he had known his entire life. He knew things would be on a larger scale in a city dealership compared to a small-town one, but was shocked at how attitudes towards customers were different at the big-city dealerships. Suddenly thrust into a position where high-pressure sales were the norm, Mitch decided to prove to his colleagues that he could be successful by putting the customer’s needs first. He began serving the Edmonton area as an ethically-minded car salesman in January of 2010.
As a young, single guy, Mitch felt free to get the best deals he could for his customers since his own needs were easily met. However, after becoming the proud dad to two wonderful kids, he started to feel the conflict of interest that commission-based sales places on its sales staff. Mitch wanted to do the best he could for his customers, but also became keenly aware of how the numbers in each sale affected the well-being of his family.
Mitch accepted promotions into management, trying out both sales manager and finance manager roles, hoping that a position of higher authority would allow him to provide for his family, affect dealership culture in positive ways, and serve customers best interests. Over time, it became ever more clear to him that the car industry needed a fundamental change, and the the needs of the customers could never be truly served by a staff whose livelihood depended on commissions. After over a decade working in dealerships, he decided it was time to create this fundamental change.
Mitch founded Dealer Dodger with the mission to take the stress, worry, and duplicity out of the car-buying process, while getting his customers the best car at the best deal possible. Dealer Dodger takes the commissions out of car sales so that the customer gets the deal they deserve.
